The Board of World Mission is thrilled to announce that Rt. Rev. Chris Giesler, a Bishop and lifelong servant of the Moravian Church, has been called to the position of Director of Mission Engagement. on the staff of the Board of World Mission.
A Lifelong Commitment to the Moravian Church
Chris Giesler brings with him a wide range of experiences serving the Moravian community. He lived in Nicaragua, where his parents were serving as Moravian missionaries, until he was nine years old. At that time his family moved to Winston-Salem, NC. He studied at Moravian College and Moravian Theological Seminary and was ordained in 1986. Since being ordained he has served as pastor at Bethesda Moravian Church, Redeemer Moravian Church, Edgeboro Moravian Church, and Emmaus Moravian Church; as Chaplain of Moravian College; and as Director of Youth Ministry for the Eastern District. He was elected a Bishop in 2010. The Board of World Mission is grateful to Chris for bringing the skills and experience he has gained in these past positions.
Director of Mission Engagement
As Director of Mission Engagement, Chris will be the lead staff member for efforts to engage congregations and constituent members in the ongoing work of the Board of World Mission. He will focus on engaging directly with congregations and mission teams on mission discernment, education, and preparation. He will also work to increase communication about the ongoing work of the BWM, and is available for congregational visits and workshops, as well as individual conversations on ways you can be involved in mission.
