Moravian Volunteer Resources
Superstorm Hurricane Sandy/ Staten Island, NY
Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are currently needed to help the many households that have been flooded by this storm along the coast of Staten Island. A storm surge of 14 feet has caused many homes to be inhabitable requiring them to be striped of insulation, flooring and drywall.

The UBC,  “United Brethren’s Church”, the Moravian Churches of Staten Island, along with Vanderbilt Avenue Moravian Church, are asking for volunteers to come and help in this effort. The UBC will provide housing and food for these volunteers and will oversee finding them a place to serve. With the Help of NEMDR,”Northeast Moravian Disaster Response “, this work is ready to begin so that as many of these homes can be readied for rebuilding before winter sets in earnest, now is the time to work!!

Volunteers will need to supply their own bedding, cots, and blowup mattressalong with sheets and bathing essentials. They may also be asked to help with the purchase of food and the preparation of meals. Most tools needed will be provided by MDR along with masks and gloves.

If you cannot serve in person and feel lead to give financially, the UBC will be accepting donations to help in this recovery and rebuilding effort. If you do give to THIS effort, please do not send your donation to the BWM but directly to the UBC to insure prompt use! Please make contributions to UBC Central Elders, add “Storm Relief” to the memo line, and mail to 2205 Richmond Rd., SI NY 10306.

Please contact the Board of World Mission at 336-773-1732 (NC Office) or 610-868-1732 (PA Office) if you would like to serve! May we all gather around at such a time as this and be Christ to one another and to a world in need of the Savior!
